Who We Are
The Ramatu Foundation for Girls and Women’s Empowerment is a registered women’s rights community-based organization in Makeni, Sierra Leone. It was founded on October 26, 2019, with a mission to empower women and girls through education, awareness, and community engagement.
Since our establishment, we have been working tirelessly to create a better future for girls and women in Sierra Leone, focusing on education, rights awareness, and advocacy against gender-based violence.
Our Vision
To see a safe Sierra Leone wherein all the girls and women are aware of their rights and responsibilities and are able to make their dreams come to reality.
Our Mission
To be an effective agent in the liberation of the oppressed and marginalized girls and women from all forms of violence that stop them from achieving their economic, social, emotional and physical potential.

Our core values are centered towards our belief & commitment to girls & women's empowerment, awareness of
human rights for development through the services delivered to vulnerable communities.
Where We Work
Since 2019, the Ramatu Foundation has been working in Bombali district and visited schools in Port Loko district but directly working tirelessly at 4 communities in Makeni:
- Pate Bana Marank
- Makneh village
- Ropolon
- New York community
We’ve visited over 4 communities and engaged radio stations to navigate our ideas. We’ve engaged over 6,000 school girls and women in Sierra Leone.
Also, we work with women in the UK through Zoom meetings and share stories to learn and inspire our teams.
