Our Impact

Transforming lives, one girl and woman at a time

Making a Difference

Since our founding in 2019, the Ramatu Foundation has been actively working to transform the lives of girls and women in Sierra Leone. Through our various programs and initiatives, we have reached thousands of individuals and made tangible improvements in their lives.

Our impact is not just in numbers, but in the real stories of transformation we see every day. Each girl who stays in school, each woman who learns about her rights, and each community that becomes more supportive of gender equality represents a significant change that ripples outward to affect many more lives.

Success Stories

Mariama's Journey

From dropping out to top of her class

Mariama was on the verge of dropping out of school due to financial constraints and family pressure. After joining our educational support program, she not only stayed in school but excelled academically.

“The Ramatu Foundation didn’t just pay my school fees, they gave me confidence and showed me that girls can be successful too. Now I’m at the top of my class and dream of becoming a doctor.” – Mariama, 16

Today, Mariama is an inspiration to other girls in her community and actively participates in our peer mentorship program.

Fatmata's Transformation

Finding economic independence

As a young widow with three children, Fatmata struggled to provide for her family. Through our skills training program, she learned tailoring and basic business management.

“I never thought I could support my family on my own. The training I received gave me skills and hope. Now I have my own small business and can pay for my children’s education.” – Fatmata, 28

Fatmata now employs two other women and is a respected businesswoman in her community.

Isatu's Advocacy

Finding her voice to help others

Isatu suffered from gender-based violence and felt powerless to change her situation. After participating in our rights awareness program, she found the courage to speak up.

“Learning about my rights changed everything for me. I realized I deserved better, and so did other women in my community. Now I work with the foundation to help other women understand their rights too.” – Isatu, 32

Isatu is now a community advocate who has helped dozens of women access support services and legal aid.

Community Transformation

Changing attitudes in Pate Bana Marank

In Pate Bana Marank, traditional attitudes toward girls’ education and women’s roles were deeply entrenched. Through consistent community engagement, we’ve seen remarkable change.

“When the foundation first came, many men including myself were skeptical. But seeing how our daughters have flourished in school and how women’s contributions have improved our community, we now fully support these initiatives.” – Community Elder

Today, the community has one of the highest rates of girls’ school attendance in the region and men actively participate in gender equality discussions.

Impact By Program

Educational Support Impact

Our educational support program has significantly reduced dropout rates among vulnerable girls. By providing school fees, learning materials, and mentorship, we’ve seen marked improvements in attendance, academic performance, and aspirations for higher education.

Teachers report that girls supported by our program show increased confidence in the classroom and are more likely to pursue leadership roles. Parents also demonstrate greater commitment to their daughters’ education.

Awareness & Rights Impact

Our awareness campaigns and rights education have led to measurable changes in attitudes and behaviors. Community surveys show increased recognition of women’s rights and decreased acceptance of gender-based violence.

We’ve seen more women reporting violations of their rights and seeking support, indicating greater awareness and empowerment. Men who participate in our programs show significant shifts in their views on gender equality.

Community Engagement Impact

Our community engagement efforts have created sustainable change by involving all segments of society. By working with community leaders, parents, men, and boys, we’ve created environments where girls and women can thrive.

Communities that have engaged with our programs show increased community-led initiatives supporting girls’ education and women’s rights, demonstrating the lasting impact of our approach.
